Laugh it Off! What Made You Laugh Out Loud Lately? 


As we navigate life's ups and downs, it's easy to become consumed by stress, relationships, and various obstacles. However, I've discovered a secret weapon that's helped me through even the toughest times: laughter. Growing up, my bubbly personality and love for fun always brought joy to those around me, but it wasn't until recently that I realized just how therapeutic laughter could be. Join me as I explore the power of laughter in healing, share stories of the incredible people who have made me laugh when I needed it most, and reflect on my journey through depression and the role that laughter played in my recovery. 

 

 In the African-American community, laughter has long been a vital tool for coping with adversity. Even in the most somber moments, such as funerals, we find ways to share humorous memories and laugh together. This ability to find light in the darkness demonstrates our resilience and determination to overcome life's challenges. While some may perceive this as peculiar, it is through laughter that we persevere and create moments of joy, even in the face of hardship. 

 

For me, when life gets tough, I've found solace in revisiting the classic comedies and sitcoms that never fail to make me laugh. Whether it's a beloved movie or an old TV show, these nostalgic gems transport me back to a time when things were simpler and laughter came easily. By immersing myself in these humorous tales, I'm able to momentarily forget my current worries and remember the power of laughter to uplift my spirits and provide a much-needed respite from life's challenges. 

 

My personal escape hatch from life's difficulties is a collection of cherished TV shows and movies that have stood the test of time. Classics like "The Cosby Show," "A Different World," and "The Nanny" never fail to lift my spirits, while films like "Coming to America," “Pretty Woman”, and "Bebe's Kids" provide endless laughter and a welcome escape. Returning to these familiar worlds filled with good vibes and happy memories allows me to recharge, so that when I re-emerge, I'm better equipped to face whatever challenges life throws my way. 

 




The power of laughter and nostalgia cannot be underestimated. Whether we're facing personal struggles or simply navigating the ups and downs of daily life, the ability to laugh and reconnect with cherished memories can provide a much-needed source of comfort and resilience. So, I invite you to join me in embracing humor and nostalgia as valuable tools for healing and growth.
