Nostalgia and Fun: A Sister Act 2-themed Movie Night to Remember

Last Friday, the MsiCandi Movie Night series took us on a nostalgic trip with a Sister Act 2-themed Dinner and a Movie event. This was the second installment of my dinner and a movie summer series, and we took it up a notch. The magic of great food, fantastic entertainment, and an enthusiastic crowd truly made the evening one for the books!

Guests arrived at my home to discover a fully decorated driveway, setting the scene for an interactive Sister Act 2 experience. Photos from the film lined the driveway, and a runner led guests to the entrance, featuring musical notes and the famous "La La La La La" lyric. From the moment our guests arrived, they realized that this wasn't an average dinner and a movie backyard gathering. The excitement on our newbies' faces was clear, and we knew they weren't prepared for the full #MsiCandiMovieNight experience.

We transformed my backyard into a makeshift auditorium, complete with Tiki Bamboos and Citronella candles. The ambiance not only set the scene for a memorable night under the stars but also kept the bugs away. As guests arrived, the Sister Act 2 soundtrack filled the air, contributing to the nostalgic atmosphere and building excitement for the film.

Tosha Love, co-host and owner of Lil Bits and Bites, gave our guests the warmest welcome as they arrived, handing out a "hall pass" containing their seat assignments. I found these adorable hall passes on Etsy and thought they would be a cute way to encourage our guests to mix and mingle. We were all about that school theme the whole night, and it was seriously so much fun! Oh, and before the event, we sent out "field trip permission slips" that we made in Canva to our guests via text or email, to let our chef know about any dietary restrictions and ensure everyone could enjoy the delicious treats we planned.

To kickstart the fun and loosen things up, we decided to surprise our guests with a playful twist—a shot of 'Communion' (red wine)! The unexpected treat was met with cheers and laughter, setting the tone for a lively and engaging evening. It quickly became one of the highlights of the night, with many guests claiming it as their favorite part!

Before we started the film, I took a moment to officially welcome our guests with a heartfelt speech. I then handed the spotlight over to my co-hosts, the amazing ladies who helped make this event possible. Without them, the evening wouldn't have been the same. After enjoying Tosha Love's sophisticated adult snackables, we were treated to another delightful surprise from Michelle Smith, affectionately known as Auntie Chelle. Staying true to our school theme, she presented us with charming boxed lunches, complete with a scrumptious dessert. It was like being transported back to our childhood days, but with a gourmet twist!

In a nod to the film's grand finale, I changed into a robe (Whoopi, I'm available for part 3!) during the Joyful Joyful winning song scene, as we handed out mini trophies to our guests. The excitement was contagious as everyone cheered and celebrated the win like we were all really part of the ST Francis choir. Finally, we wrapped up the amazing night with a group photo at our specially designed photo station, capturing memories of the incredible experience we shared.
