The Men of Moesha: My Unpopular Opinions on Moesha’s Love Life

The Men of Moesha: My Unpopular Opinions on Moesha’s Love Life

Moesha was one of the most iconic Black sitcoms of the ‘90s. It gave us drama, friendships, family struggles, and plenty of love interests for our girl Mo. Over the years, I’ve seen so many think pieces discussing the men of Moesha, and one name always seems to pop up as a fan favorite:

"Q"

But here’s the thing… I wasn’t a fan. 👀

Yup, I said it. While a lot of girls were swooning over Quinton’s bad boy energy, I thought he was corny and rude—and I have thoughts on the rest of Moesha’s love interests too.

So let’s get into it—the men of Moesha, my favorites, least favorites, and why Q just didn’t do it for me.

The Teacher Channing… CRINGE. 🚩🚩🚩

Played by: Jason W. George (EVE, Grey's Anatomy, Station 19)

Absolutely not.

Inappropriate, weird, and disturbing.

Moesha’s dad should’ve stepped in IMMEDIATELY.

The ‘90s had a weird obsession with these teacher-student romance storylines, and they aged horribly. Boy Meets World, Dawson’s Creek, Pretty Little Liars—they all did this, and looking back, it was cringe.

Aaron – The BEST Boyfriend (And the FINEST One!)

💭 Played by: Brandon Quintin Adams (Pollyanna, Sandlot, Moonwalker (Michael Jackson), The Mighty Ducks)

Now Aaron? He was the one.

College boy energy. Mature. Respectful. Smart.

Looked good & had goals.

• He wasn’t on games or childish energy—he was actually serious about Moesha.

I truly felt like he was the best fit for her. He brought stability, intelligence, and maturity to her life.

If Moesha had ended up with him long-term? I wouldn’t have been mad.

Ohaji – A No For Me

💭 Played by: Merlin Santana (The Cosby Show, Moesha, and Steve Harvey Show)

Honestly, most people forget about him. That should tell you everything.

Too arrogant for my taste.

Didn’t bring anything special to Moesha’s life.

• Just felt unmemorable compared to the others. and he was a two-timing dog.

Side Note: Though I wasn’t a fan of Ohaji’s character, I have to take a moment to honor Merlin Santana, who was incredibly talented and had a career that was only getting bigger. He tragically passed away in 2002, gone far too soon. May he continue to rest in peace.

Jeremy – A Surprise Favorite

Played by: Usher (No explanation needed)

Y’all, it was Usher! That’s already a win.

But beyond that, I actually liked Jeremy’s character.

Smooth, charming, fun.

• Had that charismatic energy without being too much.

• He wasn’t a main boyfriend, but I liked his energy.

I don’t know if it was the actual character or the fact that it was Usher, but either way, I was here for it.

Q (Quinton) – The “Bad Boy” That Never Had Me

💭 Played by: Fredro Starr (Rapper in group Onyx Actor: Moesha, Sunset Park, Save The Last Dance)

Q was the quintessential bad boy—he had the New York accent, the swagger, the smooth talk (“What up, shorty?”), and that mysterious edge.

But me? I wasn’t impressed.

• The “What up, shorty” was corny. I didn’t find it cute.

• He was rude & nonchalant, acting like Moesha was lucky to have him.

• He constantly had an attitude—it felt like their relationship was more drama than romance.

I get why the bad boy appeal worked for some people, but honestly? I thought Moesha should have wanted better.

Hakeem – The Best Friend That Was Cute… But Corny

💭 Played by: Lamont Bentley (Moesha, Tales from The Hood, The Wash)

I understood the best friends-to-lovers angle, and it made sense. Hakeem was always around, always loyal, and clearly had feelings for Moesha.

But let’s be real… he was kinda corny. Initially I was here for it- but after watching the story unfold, it was a no for me.

• He was sweet, but not exciting. (I liked him for ME!! Just not for Moesha! She would walk all over him makes sense why she liked Q so much)

• Their chemistry felt more brother-sister than romantic at times.

• I liked him as a friend, but for Moesha? Meh.

It was a cute storyline, but I never loved them together.

Side Note: Sadly, Lamont Bentley also left us way too soon, passing away in 2005. He was such a familiar face in 90s Black television, and I truly believe he had even more greatness ahead of him. Rest in power, Lamont.

Who Was REALLY the Best Fit for Moesha?

• Q was a fan favorite, but I never saw it for him.

• Hakeem was sweet, but not exciting.

• Aaron was the best choice. Period.

• Jeremy was a fun little moment, but not long-term.

• The teacher? Never. Ever. Period.

Sadly we never got to see who Moesha ended up with. That cliff hanger the show left us with was so RUDE!!!

Let’s Discuss!

I know Q fans are gonna fight me on this one, but I’m standing on it!

Who was YOUR favorite Moesha boyfriend?
